Margo Guryan, a beloved singer-songwriter, passed away in 2021. In remembrance of her, several emerging indie artists are covering her songs for an upcoming Sub Pop tribute album titled Like Someone I Know. We previously featured tracks by Empress Of and TOPS, and artists such as Clairo, Margo Price, and Kate Bollinger will also be contributing. Today, we focus on the collaboration between Frankie Cosmos and Good Morning in honor of Margo’s work.
Frankie Cosmos is currently working on their next album, following their 2022 release, Inner World Peace, while Good Morning recently released their LP, Good Morning Seven. The two groups have teamed up for a gentle interpretation of “Take A Picture,” the whimsical title track from Guryan’s only solo album, released in 1968. Frankie Cosmos’ Greta Kline shares her experience with Margo’s music:
I discovered Margo Guryan shortly before her death through a playlist by Everyday Oil. During the last months of 2021, while mixing Inner World Peace, I delved into both Take A Picture and 27 Demos. I distinctly remember a rainy evening in Brooklyn when we discussed how beautiful Take A Picture sounded. It was definitely a significant part of our creative atmosphere.
It felt like I was late to the party in discovering Margo Guryan. Every time someone finds her music, they start to realize how many already cherish her songs. I hope this tribute leads to even more fans discovering her work, and I’m excited to contribute to that with this compilation!
