Review of the Song “Sleeper” by Knitting

knitting – “Sleeper”

Knitting, a band from Montreal, recently signed with Mint Records in Vancouver and announced their upcoming album, Some Kind Of Heaven. The band, known for their indie rock sound, has previously opened for bands like Truth Club, Cherry Glazerr, and Nap Eyes. Their lead single from the new album is “Spirit Gum,” and they have now released “Sleeper.”

The album Some Kind Of Heaven is produced by Scott Munro of Preoccupations. “Sleeper” explores the journey of bandleader Mischa Dempsey as they navigate their non-binary identity. Mischa shared a personal experience about their sister coming out as trans, which led to a deeper connection between them. Mischa also disclosed their own transition experience:

Between writing and recording “Sleeper,” I was on hormone replacement therapy (HRT), which significantly affected my voice. It was a challenge to sing the song in the studio, and with the help of a vocal coach specializing in trans clients, we were able to overcome this obstacle with multiple recording sessions and vocal lessons.
