Sam Shepherd, known as Floating Points, a UK electronic music producer, is set to release his solo album titled Cascade following his 2021 collaboration Promises with Pharoah Sanders and the London Symphony Orchestra. Several tracks, including “Birth4000,” “Del Oro,” and “Key103,” have already been shared. Today, Floating Points presents another track.
The new piece titled “Ocotillo” is a nine-minute long instrumental composition with ethereal qualities. The track features the skilled Austrian-Ethiopian harpist Miriam Adefris, known for her work with Floating Points on the ballet Mere Mortals. As the music progresses, it transitions from serene ambience to energetic club beats, incorporating footwork drum programming towards the end.
Accompanied by an “alive painting” video from artist Akiko Nakayama, “Ocotillo” brings a unique visual element to the listening experience. Watch the video below.
Cascade will be released on 9/13 via Ninja Tune.
