Review of the Latest Album by They Are Gutting A Body Of Water

They Are Gutting A Body Of Water Share Archival Comp swanlike (loosies 2020-2023)

A recent release from the Philly experimental/shoegaze artist They Are Gutting A Body Of Water caught attention with their track “krillin,” which was highlighted as one of the standout Songs Of The Week. The project, fronted by Doug Dulgarian, has now dropped an album titled swanlike (loosies 2020-2023).

While it may seem unusual to label music created within the span of 2020-2023 as “archival,” the compilation swanlike is a collection of 22 tracks featuring SoundCloud and YouTube gems, demos, various beats, covers of popular TV show theme songs like Dawson’s Creek and Degrassi, and more. The album includes a track named “i will always love you,” which is not a rendition of the Dolly Parton classic, and another titled “heavy vegetable” that hints at a possible homage to Rob Crow’s band. The album offers an array of interesting content for listeners to enjoy.
