The debut track from The Hard Quartet is finally here. This new indie rock supergroup, consisting of Emmett Kelly, Stephen Malkmus, Matt Sweeney, and Jim White, has been hinting at their arrival for a while. The song “Earth Hater,” performed by Malkmus, is packed with powerful riffs, characteristic of a band with members like SM, Sweeney, and Kelly. While it carries some resemblance to Malkmus’ previous work with Jicks, it also retains a sound that wouldn’t feel out of place in the Pavement universe.
Aside from unveiling “Earth Hater,” The Hard Quartet has disclosed their initial three live performances scheduled in Los Angeles, New York, and London this autumn. Find event details and watch the music video for “Earth Hater” directed by Eyedress below.
