Combat is a band from Baltimore that creates energetic party rock in the pop-punk/emo genre, reminiscent of bands like PUP or Prince Daddy but with a touch of Los Campesinos! Their upcoming album Stay Golden, produced by Ryland Heagy of Origami Angel, is set to release in August on Counter Intuitive Records. The title track of the album, which is out now, carries a vibrant and catchy tune. The lyrics packed with memorable lines, run for just two minutes, featuring surprising ska breakdowns.
Singer Holden Wolf shares insights about the album:
Stay Golden was written during my early college years as I juggled between transitioning into adulthood, touring with my band 2-3 times a year, and managing a record label I founded at 15. This album reflects my struggle to reconcile my self-created identity and my connection with the music scene. The concept of “Staying Golden” represents an ideal way of living for me and those around me.
Wolf further explains the significance of the title track in a statement to The Alternative:
The decision to release “Stay Golden” as the lead single was natural. It was the first track penned for the album, setting the tone and inspiring the subsequent songs both musically and lyrically. Thanks to Ryland from Origami Angel, who collaborated with us in and out of the studio, the song came to life after several iterations.
