The music scene around Big Thief has been buzzing with activity. Following the departure of bassist Max Oleartchik, the band showcased new tracks during their headline performance at Portland’s Project Pabst festival. Now, frontwoman Adrianne Lenker has unveiled her latest single, which may ring a bell for fans of Big Thief or Lenker’s solo work in recent times.
Earlier in the year, Adrianne Lenker unveiled her stripped-back, country-inspired solo album, Bright Future. In the making of this album, she recorded “Once A Bunch,” which was initially featured as a bonus track on the Japanese CD release of the album. The track has been a staple at both Big Thief and Adrianne Lenker’s solo shows since 2021 and is now receiving an official single launch.
Presented in a raw, lo-fi, and intimate setting, “Once A Bunch” exudes a rustic charm with its prominent fiddle melodies and heartfelt country-folk vibe, aligning perfectly with the overall sound of Bright Future. Adrianne Lenker will embark on an East Coast solo tour this autumn, with all dates already sold out. The single is a precursor to the upcoming 7” release of “Once A Bunch” this fall, exclusively available at select independent record stores.
