Review of “A Functional Earth” by Kal Marks on TunesDeck

Kal Marks – “A Functional Earth”

Kal Marks recently unveiled their upcoming album Wasteland Baby and dropped the first single “Insects.” The band, known for their noise-rock sound, is now presenting “A Functional Earth,” a track filled with restlessness and tension.

Lead vocalist and guitarist Carl Shane shared insights on the song’s inspiration, stating, “‘A Functional Earth’ pointed us towards a more vibrant and groovy direction for the new album. After a long day of writing, we found ourselves listening to Pet Sounds. The familiar intro of ‘Wouldn’t It Be Nice’ took on a darker, distorted tone in my mind. Instead of crafting a whimsical tune about nature, we delved into a trippy narrative about the apocalypse. At times, the end seems imminent, especially for those witnessing the loss of loved ones. Humanity’s relentless pursuit of power has led to its downfall. We continue to harm the planet by drilling, polluting, and waging war on the innocent. The Earth is wondrous, but some fail to appreciate its beauty. These are age-old truths.”

Wasteland Baby is set for release on 9/13 under the Exploding In Sound label.
