Revamped “Nightcall” by Phoenix, Kavinsky, & Angèle Takes Center Stage Following Viral Olympics Debut

Phoenix, Kavinsky, & Angèle Release New Version Of “Nightcall” After Viral Olympics Performance

Recently, Phoenix took the stage as the highlight of the Summer Olympics closing ceremony in Paris, showcasing several tracks and teaming up with artists like Air and Ezra Koenig from Vampire Weekend. The standout was their rendition of Kavinsky’s classic hit “Nightcall,” alongside the French producer himself and rising star Angèle. This performance gained massive attention, leading to the release of a collaborative fresh version of “Nightcall.”

The original “Nightcall,” co-written by Kavinsky and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo of Daft Punk, became iconic after it was featured in the opening of Nicholas Winding Refn’s 2011 film Drive. During the Olympic show, their performance shattered Shazam records and resulted in a spike in streaming numbers. Now, Phoenix has released a new take on the classic track that differs slightly from the original.

In this updated “Nightcall,” Thomas Mars from Phoenix steps in for Kavinsky on the male vocals, while Angèle replaces CSS’s Lovefoxxx, who originally lent her voice. The instrumental arrangement remains very close to the original, evoking a sense reminiscent of Taylor Swift’s re-recorded works. Nonetheless, “Nightcall” remains a fantastic song, and it’s always worthwhile to experience again. Check out the new version below.
