Playboi Carti has maintained an air of mystery for some time. The Atlanta rapper has put out several singles over the past year, including “Different Day,” “2024,” “EvilJ0rdan,” “Ketamine,” and the Travis Scott collaboration “BACKR00MS.” However, these tracks have only been available on platforms like Instagram and YouTube, not on mainstream streaming services. He has collaborated with major artists such as Kanye West, Ty Dolla $ign, Future, Metro Boomin, and Camila Cabello. Carti had to postpone his highly-anticipated arena tour just before it was set to kick off, with no rescheduled dates announced. Despite the uncertainty, he has just dropped news regarding his long-awaited new album — sort of.
The new album, titled Music, serves as the sequel to his acclaimed 2020 project Whole Lotta Red. The album comes with a pre-order option. However, details like cover art, tracklist, and importantly, the release date, are still missing. According to Carti’s website, pre-orders will ship within six months starting from September 12, 2024 — which isn’t particularly reassuring!
A new single titled “All Red” has been released. This track, produced by long-time collaborators F1LTHY and OjiVolta, is a dynamic and powerful anthem featuring a hook about Carti’s tattoo of an inverted cross. In this song, Carti employs a lower vocal register reminiscent of Future, showcasing the signature confidence that distinguishes him. “All Red” is now available on streaming platforms and marks the first standalone single from Carti to receive a formal commercial release since Whole Lotta Red.
