Pharmakon – “METHANAL DOLL”

Recently, Pharmakon revealed her upcoming album Maggot Mass along with the intense lead single titled “WITHER AND WARP.” Now, Margaret Chardiet has released a new track, “METHANAL DOLL,” that delves into deeper themes.

Chardiet described the song as depicting a harsh awakening from a state of numbness. She elaborated:

The realization came as I recognized my physical self and understood that I am a person, not just a part of nature like moss or dirt. I wanted to confirm my existence with purpose rather than allow myself to disintegrate without meaning. This led me to investigate the concept of “Cadaver Decomposition Island,” where life thrives even as bodies decay. This unique ecosystem, flourishing with worms and plants, marks the process known as “Maggot Mass.” However, this phenomenon occurs only during a “green burial,” where there is no embalming or preservation. In such a scenario, all the life forms that feed can reach you, emphasizing the natural cycle of creation.

It’s evident that capitalism influences even our death. Wealthy individuals are preserved, becoming life-long monuments, whereas the less fortunate face an anonymous end, reduced to ashes in a morgue, stored in plastic bags. The harsh truth is that in America, our remains don’t return to the earth. We extract energy from the universe but trap it within toxic graves, disrupting the natural cycle of life and death. By trying to preserve our physical forms indefinitely, we disconnect from the essential flow of energy essential for life.

The release of the song is accompanied by a music video directed by Max Rooney and Hank Allen. They remarked that the creative discussion flowed easily among the team, aiming to create something that balances grotesque imagery with a serene, mournful feel. Chardiet’s commitment to her art ensured that every detail was meaningful, resulting in a transformative collaboration.
