Back in 1976, Peter Perrett formed The Only Ones, known for their hit “Another Girl, Another Planet.” Despite disbanding and reuniting several times, Perrett continued his musical journey with other projects. He embarked on a solo career later in life, releasing albums like How The West Was Won (2017) and Humanworld (2019). Now, he is gearing up for the release of a new album with noteworthy collaborators.
Set to debut this fall, Peter Perrett’s upcoming LP, The Cleansing, boasts contributions from Johnny Marr, Bobby Gillespie of Primal Scream, Carlos O’Connell from Fontaines D.C., and Alice Go from Dream Wife. In a statement, Perrett expressed his aspiration for this album, saying, “Something inside me would like to make my best-ever album. Seeing Johnny Cash doing his best work right at the end makes me feel like just because I’m old doesn’t mean I’m useless.”
The lead single, “I Wanna Go With Dignity,” is an energetic track addressing readiness for death. Bobby Gillespie is featured on the song and in its accompanying video directed by Douglas Hart. Gillespie and Hart, former members of the Jesus And Mary Chain, reunite for this project, marking their first collaboration since. Perrett describes the album as having an uplifting essence despite touching on themes like death, suicide, and depression.
