The indie rock project WHY? led by Yoni Wolf is set to release a new album titled The Well I Fell Into this summer. Following their first single “The Letters, Etc.,” they are now sharing “G-dzillah G’dolah.”
The song “G-dzillah G’dolah” kicks off with a simple instrumental arrangement featuring keys and upright bass as Wolf reflects on a higher power. In the song, he sings about feeling torn and burned by a colossal presence. In a press release, Wolf shared his thoughts on the track:
The lyrics delve into a moment of uncertainty and introspection. En route to reunite with his beloved after a prolonged separation, the protagonist grapples with feelings of inadequacy and trepidation about their reunion. In his partner’s absence, he has envisioned her as a towering monster in his emotions—a formidable figure. He pledges to make amends upon their meeting, but deep down, he knows he’s clinging to remnants of the past. He senses her slipping away, overwhelmed by fear and self-reproach for letting her go. The narrative unfolds at thirty thousand feet, leaving listeners hanging in suspense with no resolution or aftermath.
