Yasmin Williams, known for her mesmerizing album “Urban Driftwood” in 2021, is back with a new release. Following the well-received collaboration “Dawning” with Aoife O’Donovan, the talented fingerstyle guitarist has unveiled details about her upcoming third LP titled “Acadia.” Set to debut in October, the album includes tracks like “Dawning” and the latest single “Virga,” a captivating folk ballad with a mystical essence that transports listeners to a dreamlike state.
In her own words, Williams describes the inspiration behind the song:
“A virga is a meteorological phenomenon where streaks of rain hang from a cloud and evaporate before reaching the ground. I related this sentiment to how it feels for me to be an artist in an industry that doesn’t seem to always value art and reflection. I eventually realized that I needed to learn how to thrive ‘in virga,’ so to speak … to learn to be okay with feeling slightly suspended in time, with my hopes and dreams dangling in an environment I have no control over, never fully having my feet planted on the ground.”
She also shared her thoughts on the meaning behind the album title:
“Acadia” holds multiple meanings: a place of rural peace and pastoral poetry in Italian, a refuge or idyllic place in Greek and Italian, fertile land in Mi’kmaq, and a place of plenty in French. All of these interpretations align with the essence of the album. Each song in the album symbolizes seeds that have blossomed into “Acadia,” a sanctuary of creativity, collaboration, and inclusivity where Williams envisions her music flourishing without limitations or biases. The album aims to break barriers between genres and foster artistic collaborations, reflecting her musical journey that began at a young age.”
