In January 2020, The Innocence Mission, a beloved folk band from Pennsylvania, released their beautiful album called See You Tomorrow. Following that, Karen Peris, the band leader, released her own solo album A Song Is Way Above The Lawn. Now, the group has revealed their upcoming record titled Midwinter Swimmers, set to be released before winter arrives.
One of the tracks on Midwinter Swimmers is “This Thread Is A Green Street,” written by Karen Peris in collaboration with her husband and bandmate Don Peris. This song sets a serene, dreamlike atmosphere. Karen penned the rest of the songs on the album herself. Describing the single, Karen talks about it being a representation of landscapes as portals to memories or connections to loved ones.
Karen explains that the song draws inspiration from everyday visuals like a sewing thread resembling a street map. She also mentions capturing the nostalgia of 1970s sing-alongs. She notes the challenge of infusing the recording with this sentiment and the elusive beauty found in childhood memories.
Additionally, Karen Peris directed the music video for “This Thread Is A Green Street,” creating a visually stunning hand-stitched animation. See the video and the full tracklist of Midwinter Swimmers below.
