New Release: Mustard’s Latest Album “Faith In A Mustard Seed”

Mustard – “Pressured Up” (Feat. ScHoolboy Q & Vince Staples)

Mustard, a seasoned rap producer from California who was instrumental in shaping the early-’10s West Coast rap sound, is currently experiencing a significant career high. He recently produced Kendrick Lamar’s hit track “Not Like Us,” which has become his most successful single to date. Mustard played a prominent role at Kendrick’s Pop Out concert, showcasing a lineup of top-tier guests and even making an appearance in the acclaimed “Not Like Us” music video. Today, Mustard drops his new album titled Faith In A Mustard Seed.

Faith In A Mustard Seed deviates from the anticipated West Coast vibe following the success of “Not Like Us,” presenting an ambitious cross-genre project. The album not only features Mustard’s production but also includes collaborations with artists such as Young Thug, Future, Roddy Ricch, Lil Yachty, Kirk Franklin, Quavo, Ty Dolla $ign, Uncle Charlie Wilson, Kodak Black, Lil Durk, and Ella Mai. Notably absent from the lineup is Kendrick Lamar. Surprisingly, Mustard introduced the album with a video for the gospel-inspired 10-minute closing track “Pray For Me,” and the Travis Scott assisted track “Parking Lot” is also part of the release.

One track from Faith In A Mustard Seed that is likely to catch the attention of Stereogum readers is “Pressured Up,” featuring Vince Staples and ScHoolboy Q, two highly-regarded West Coast artists. “Pressured Up” boasts a quintessential Mustard beat that is both dynamic and stripped-down. Vince Staples and ScHoolboy Q exude a subtle air of threat over the production, remaining composed while conveying readiness for any challenge.
