The debut album titled First Sounds by Sarah Neufeld, Richard Reed Parry, and Rebecca Foon has been announced. Produced by Shahzad Ismaily, the Montreal neoclassical trio released their lead single “Maria” today.
Richard Reed Parry explained the inspiration behind the song, “‘Maria’ is the first single from our first album, and features our friend Shahzad Ismaily on percussion. The melody stemmed from an old handmade recording I found, which had slowed-down voices singing hymns on reel-to-reel tape, giving it an almost hymn-like quality.”
The music video for “Maria” was directed by Jason Last, drawing inspiration from nature in Catalonia, Spain, capturing the cyclical and intricate essence of the sound through various elements.
Reflecting on their musical journey, Parry shared, “In Montreal, October 1999, the three of us played music together for the first time. The musical chemistry we discovered then shaped our future collaborations and bands. Decades later, amidst the pandemic, we reunited to create our first album, picking up where we left off.”
