A teaser clip by American Football hinted at new music as they teased a cover of “Never Meant” by Iron & Wine. The cover is part of an upcoming album celebrating the 25th anniversary of American Football’s debut LP.
The American Football (Covers) album, set to release in October, includes covers by Ethel Cain, Manchester Orchestra, Blondshell, John McEntire, and more. Iron & Wine shared their excitement to be part of the project and their interpretation of “Never Meant.”
Sam Beam of Iron & Wine expressed his admiration for American Football’s music, while Steve Lamos of American Football praised Beam’s songwriting and interpretation skills. The collaboration resulted in a unique cover of “Never Meant.”
The full tracklist for American Football (Covers) includes artists like Iron & Wine, Blondshell, Novo Amor & Lowswimmer, Ethel Cain, Yvette Young, Girl Ultra, M.A.G.S., Manchester Orchestra, and John McEntire.
The albums American Football (Covers) and American Football (25th Anniversary Edition) will be available on 10/18 through Polyvinyl.
