Ezra Collective, the UK cool jazz group who clinched the Mercury Prize last year with “Where I’m Meant To Be,” are gearing up to release a new album titled “Dance, No One’s Watching” in September. Their lead single, “God Gave Me Feet For Dancing,” featuring the captivating vocals of soul-jazz artist Yazmin Lacey, exudes an alluring and sophisticated vibe.
Femi Koleoso from the band shares the inspiration behind the track:
Reflecting on our upbringing in church, dancing holds a significant spiritual and communal meaning for myself, Ife, and TJ. “God Gave Me Feet For Dancing” delves into this aspect of Ezra Collective. Drawing parallels to the biblical account of “David dancing before the Lord,” the song explores dance as a spiritual expression, a divine gift to transcend life’s challenges through movement and rhythm.
