Miya Folick, known for her captivating music, continues to impress. Following her second album Roach released last year, she has unveiled a dreamy rendition of Annie Lennox’s “Walking On Broken Glass,” collaborated with Skinny Atlas, and contributed to the soundtrack of The Buccaneers. Recently, she introduced a new single titled “La Da Da,” and now Folick delights fans with the release of “Alaska.”
In her own words, Folick describes “Alaska” as being inspired by Jeremy Radin’s poem “Dear Sal,” particularly the phrase “desire is a buffalo standing on my chest.” The song reflects her journey through the fear of losing a cherished relationship while also accepting that life would carry on. The lyric “I could lose you” holds a dual meaning; in the Japanese translation for the cover art, it captures both the possibility of losing someone and the ability to do so. Through this piece, Folick grapples with the significance of her relationship with her partner and emphasizes the importance of self-identity. She expresses that while losing this person would bring her sorrow, losing herself would resonate even deeper.
