Mavis Staples – New Track “Worthy” on TunesDeck

Mavis Staples – “Worthy”

Next month marks Mavis Staples’ 85th birthday. Recently, the iconic singer marked the occasion with a concert featuring notable artists like Chris Stapleton, Grace Potter, and Hozier. Today, she unveils her latest track, “Worthy,” inspired by Prince.

Describing the song, Staples exclaims, “It’s an uplifting tune – a jubilant celebration that will get you moving. Some songs just envelop you, and this one is full of sass and fire. It’s really energizing.” The track was crafted and produced by MNDR, a protege of Mark Ronson, who expressed:

Collaborating with the legendary Mavis Staples felt like a dream. Witnessing her soulful voice, experiencing her grace, and observing her artistic finesse in the studio as a groundbreaking music and cultural icon was an indescribable experience that will stay with me forever. While listening to her breathe life into our song “Worthy” – a tribute to embracing both good and tough times, a melody honoring both ourselves and others – I realized that no other artist could infuse this song with more spirit and soul than Mavis Staples, a living legend, an icon. This was one of the most significant moments of my life, and I am eternally grateful.

Further adding to her accolades, Staples is set to be the focal point of a new children’s book penned by poet Carol Boston Weatherford titled Bridges Instead Of Walls: The Story Of Mavis Staples. Scheduled for release on July 9, a day before her birthday, through Rocky Pond Books. Listen to “Worthy” below.
