Maren Morris: A Look at Her Song “Kiss The Sky”
If you’ve caught a glimpse of the trailer for the new animated movie The Wild Robot, you’d likely agree that it looks impressive. The film, based on Peter Brown’s kids’ book, is directed by Chris Sanders of Lilo & Stitch and The Croods fame. Starring Lupita Nyong’o as a robot forming bonds with animals, The Wild Robot has garnered comparisons to the brilliance of Miyazaki, possibly reaching WALL-E levels. Notably, the movie has sparked Oscar buzz not only for Best Animated Feature but also for Best Picture, and features tracks from Maren Morris.
Maren Morris, the artist known for her pop-country roots who recently distanced herself from Nashville, has just unveiled her EP Intermission, including “push me over”, a collaboration with MUNA and Tobias Jesso Jr. Morris contributed two songs, “Kiss The Sky” and “Even When I’m Not,” to the Wild Robot soundtrack. Produced in partnership with film-score composer Kris Bowers, “Kiss The Sky” serves as the backdrop for a scene involving migrating geese. The track exudes a pleasant vibe, carrying a hint of Mumford-style stadium-folk polish. While it stands well on its own, its impact is likely to be greater within the movie’s narrative. Morris shared her thoughts on the experience:
“I was so emotionally moved by this story as a mother. Writing the songs for this film was such an honor because it made me feel even closer to my son, especially when I’m touring and sometimes have to be far away from him. The entire Wild Robot team has been so supportive of the creation of these songs, and I’m so excited for the world to see this film.”
Seemingly crafted with an eye on the Oscars, the song’s video features scenes from the movie. You can view it below.
The Wild Robot opens in theaters on 9/27.
