After a period of silence following their 2022 album Pocket Fantasy, Mamalarky is back with a fresh indie rock track titled “Nothing Lasts Forever,” marking their signing with Epitaph. Apart from a session on Audiotree Live, fans have been waiting for new music.
Reflecting on the song’s creation, Livvy Bennett shared:
During a sweltering summer heatwave in LA without air conditioning, we found ourselves in a creative rut. Surprisingly, everyone began to dance. Although we intended to write for someone else, we loved this track too much to let it go. It explores that feeling of uncertainty in relationships, where you might envision the future yet still find yourself unsure. The lyrics play with these contradictions, and perhaps that ambiguity adds to the enjoyment!
Regarding the music video’s concept, she commented:
We filmed the video in a rundown office space near LAX. It was a fun day, and I appreciate my friends for coming out to support me! I’m not naturally a dancer, having almost flunked dance class in high school due to being consistently high and lacking skills, which my teachers were not fond of. However, participating in this surreal dance-off felt both cathartic and terrifying. I still find it hard to believe that I actually won!
