Lunchtime Melodies: Gordi & SOAK Collaborate on “Lunch At Dune”

Gordi & SOAK – “Lunch At Dune”

Gordi, also known as Sophie Payten from Australia, and SOAK, the Northern Irish artist Bridie Monds-Watson, are joining forces for a new project. Their upcoming EP, titled Lunch At Dune, is set to be released next month. The lead track, which shares the same name as the EP, was unveiled today marking Gordi’s debut release after her departure from Jagjaguwar, her previous label. Although Jagjaguwar put out music for Gordi last year, the track’s concept originated just before the onset of the pandemic. Gordi elaborated in a recent press statement:

In late February 2020, I was at an Airbnb in East London. The weather was bleak, and the quiet streets felt eerie. I refreshed Twitter every couple of minutes to gauge which countries were closing borders, wondering about my return home amid growing pandemic fears. I took a moment to process the uncertainty and then started writing. The following day, I wrapped up “Lunch at Dune” at a small studio in Camden, North London.

She continued:

The song explores the feeling of confronting overwhelming challenges, with perspective being the key to overcoming them. Through “Lunch at Dune,” I hope to share that perspective with someone dear to me.

The accompanying music video features Gordi and SOAK in formal attire, relaxing on the beach and playfully splashing in the ocean while fully dressed. SOAK shared her excitement about the collaboration:

I’ve been a fan of Gordi for a long time, so I was thrilled when she invited me to sing on this track. There’s something enchanting about her music—each song feels like its own unique world, and “Lunch at Dune” exemplifies that. I had mixed feelings about jumping into the chilly Irish sea for the video as winter approached, but I went along with it and eventually returned to my usual skin tone!

Lunch At Dune will be available on November 15th.
