Lauren Mayberry Unveils Captivating New Single “Something In The Air” on TunesDeck

Lauren Mayberry – “Something In The Air”

About a year ago, Lauren Mayberry seemed set to release her debut solo album. The Chvrches vocalist embarked on a tour and dropped several singles such as “Are You Awake,” “Shame,” and “Change Shapes.” Additionally, she collaborated on a track with HEALTH. However, these efforts did not lead to an album release at that time.

Now, Mayberry has returned with a fresh track titled “Something In The Air.” A recent announcement confirms that she will be launching her solo album named Vicious Creature later this year. Since today is the first of October, the release appears to be imminent. The song features pop-rock elements, beautifully showcasing Mayberry’s powerful vocals alongside a production style reminiscent of the ’80s and ’90s without confining itself to a specific era. The catchy hook in this track evokes thoughts of Brandon Boyd from Incubus for some reason. In the lyrics she expresses, “I just want to be someone, someone who’s happy/ But why d’you even care? Must be something in the air.”

Here’s what Mayberry shared about the song:

“Something In The Air” unexpectedly came to life. While in London finalizing another song with my friend and collaborator Dan McDougall, we took a break in the kitchen at the studio complex. An iconic British musician, who I’d rather not name, joined us and began discussing topics like electricity and 5G, claiming they’re making people unwell. Afterward, Dan and I strolled around the block, delving into those ideas and the reasons people are drawn to them, which inspired the chorus line to come about.
