Amid her roles in Joker: Folie À Deux and the release of the accompanying soundtrack Harlequin, Lady Gaga has managed to squeeze in the creation of additional music. Notably, Harlequin is not a sequel to her 2020 album Chromatica; she has announced that her seventh album is set to debut in February. Following the poor performance of Joker at the box office, fresh pop hits from Gaga might serve as a perfect escape for fans and the production team alike. Recently, she unveiled a teaser for a new track titled “Disease,” which is now available.
“Disease” is said to mark a “return to form” for Gaga, reminiscent of her iconic Born This Way era. The song opens with a mix of jarring metallic sounds and powerful vocal performances. The chorus features lines like, “I could play the doctor/ I can cure your disease,” and explores themes of allure and healing: “If you were a sinner/ I could make you believe/ Lay you down like one, two, three/ Eyes roll back with ecstasy/ I can smell your sickness/ I can cure ya/ Cure your disease.”
Reworked by Lady Gaga alongside Andrew Watt, Cirkut, and her fiancé Michael Polansky—who also participated in Harlequin—“Disease” is produced by the trio of Gaga, Watt, and Cirkut. Watch the music video below.
