JULIE – “CLAIRBOURNE PRACTICE” (Music on TunesDeck)

julie – “clairbourne practice”

Exploring the rising popularity of shoegaze among the youth, it was inevitable for some bands to secure major label deals, and one such band is julie. The Los Angeles-based trio, obsessed with lowercase letters, is set to launch their first album, my anti-aircraft friend in September through Atlantic Records. Their latest single, “clairbourne practice,” races ahead energetically, evoking clouds of distortion reminiscent of Isn’t Anything.

Regarding the song, the band shared the following insight:

Describing a clash of two voices unable to comprehend each other, the layered vocals in this track embody a sense of androgyny, conveying two individuals expressing the same message yet failing to truly connect. Emphasizing stark contrasts, the song oscillates between gentle and aggressive passages, circling back through the cycle of sweetness, destruction, and repetition.

Lizzie Klien and julie co-directed the music video for “clairbourne practice,” which can be viewed below.
