Jeff Tweedy, the frontman of Wilco, usually shares personal solo recordings on his Substack, Starship Casual, exclusively for paying subscribers. However, today Tweedy has released two new covers for everyone to enjoy.
One of these covers is a solo rendition of “Forever Paradise” by the legendary punk band The Undertones. Tweedy reflects on the song, mentioning that it provided comfort during a challenging period in his life. The other cover is a tribute to Magnolia Electric Co.’s “Doing Something Wrong,” a track originally recorded by Tweedy’s late friend, Steve Albini. The song was dedicated to Albini during a recent memorial, prompting Tweedy to reminisce about Jason Molina, the talented musician behind Magnolia Electric Co.: “Jason’s absence weighs heavy, and I regret not embracing him fully when I had the chance.”
