Jason Narducy’s ’80s Band Verböten Share First New Music In Over 40 Years

Jason Narducy, a long-standing figure in the indie rock scene, has a rich musical history. He has led his band Split Single, worked as a bassist for renowned artists such as Superchunk and Bob Mould, and collaborated with actor Michael Shannon on an R.E.M. tribute tour. Narducy’s musical journey dates back to when he formed the punk band Verböten at the age of 10 with friends from Chicago. Despite its brief existence, Verböten made an impact by recording an EP that was released in 2020 and influencing a young Dave Grohl to start writing music after attending one of their practices.

Now, Verböten is making a comeback. The band, comprising Narducy on guitar, vocalist Tracey Bradford, bassist Chris Kean, and new drummer John Carroll (replacing original drummer Zack Kantor), will perform for the first time since 1983 at Riot Fest in Chicago next month. They are also unveiling their self-titled debut album, set for release in October and recorded at Chicago’s Electrical Audio. The politically charged lead single “Bodily Autonomy” is a high-energy rock track that demands to be belted out at the top of your lungs. Listen below.
