“Illuminating Sounds: The Journey of Rose City Band’s ‘Lights On The Way'”

Rose City Band – “Lights On The Way”

Ripley Johnson, known for his work with Wooden Shjips and Moon Duo, has announced the release of his next solo project, Sol Y Sombra, which follows his previous album, Garden Party, released last year under the Rose City Band name. The album’s first single, titled “Lights On The Way,” is now available.

Johnson shares, “In my music with Rose City Band, I aim to create uplifting and joyful sounds. However, this time I found myself confronting darker themes that I couldn’t overlook. The shadows are an inescapable part of the experience, so I embraced them.”

The album Sol Y Sombra features contributions from notable musicians including pedal steel guitarist Barry Walker, keyboardist Paul Hasenberg, drummer John Jeffrey, and special appearances by synthesist and vocalist Sanae Yamada. Be sure to listen to the opening track, “Lights On The Way,” below.
