Hildur Guðnadóttir’s Haunting Melody: “There Is No Joker” on TunesDeck

Hildur Guðnadóttir – “There Is No Joker”

There has been ongoing discussion about whether the upcoming movie Joker: Folie À Deux qualifies as a musical. During a press event at the Venice Film Festival, actress Lady Gaga remarked that, “I wouldn’t say that this is a musical in traditional terms. It’s quite unique. The music serves as a means for the characters to convey their emotions since dialog alone isn’t sufficient.” This seems to align with the typical concept of a musical. Lady Gaga, being from a theatrical background, should recognize that. Regardless of the classification, she surely acknowledges that Joker: Folie À Deux features music, right?

Some of this music is composed by Hildur Guðnadóttir, an Icelandic artist known for collaborating with avant-garde groups like Pan Sonic, Múm, The Knife, and Sunn O))). She previously earned an Oscar and a Golden Globe for her work on the initial Joker film and has now released a foreboding orchestral piece titled “There Is No Joker” from her score for Joker: Folie À Deux. You can listen to it below.

Scheduled for release in theaters on October 4, Joker: Folie À Deux better fulfills its title’s promise; otherwise, viewers might demand refunds if the Joker is absent.
