Haywire, a hardcore band from Boston, showcases a raw and intense style of music rooted in their local hardcore scene. This year marked the release of their first album, Conditioned For Demolition, which they followed up with high-energy live performances. I witnessed their performance as the opening act on this summer’s Drain tour, and they immediately engaged the crowd—a challenging feat when performing first on a six-act lineup. The band is already gearing up to release more music, announcing a new EP titled For Better Or For Worse, set to come out soon.
The For Better Or For Worse EP was produced by Will Hirst and Austin Sparkman, with renowned mixer Taylor Young at the helm. In this EP, you can find contributions from members of Fleshwater and Loosey. The first track, “Feeling Depressed?” delivers a powerful and aggressive sound, tackling themes of suicidal thoughts. Hardcore music has a unique ability to express vulnerability while simultaneously instilling a sense of strength, perfectly exemplified by the heavy breakdown in this track. Below, you can listen to “Feeling Depressed?”, explore the EP’s tracklist, and find details about upcoming live shows.
