Half Waif Unveils “The Museum”: A Sonic Journey on TunesDeck

Half Waif – “The Museum”

This October, Nandi Rose will release See You At The Maypole, marking her sixth album under the name Half Waif. The announcement came with the first single, “Figurine,” and today she has unveiled another track titled “The Museum.”

“The Museum” presents a reflective, somber tone as it contemplates the passage of time and its impacts. Rose expresses feelings of frustration and nostalgia, recalling moments like visits to her local cinema and memories tied to her former high school. Within the lyrics, she captures the essence of life’s fleeting nature: “I know that being dramatic is becoming a habit/ Wish I was laughing, I just cannot see a way out of this.” In her press statement, she elaborates:

There’s a warehouse at the top of Main Street in my small town that’s transforming into a museum dedicated to Shaker art. It’s conveniently located near my home, so I see it frequently. When I penned “The Museum,” I found myself reflecting on the juxtaposition between creating something so enduring at a time when the climate crisis is worsening. The notion of housing artifacts in a pristine gallery while chaos reigns outside resonates deeply with me.

I came across a story about tourists flocking to Iceland to visit an active volcano, which felt parallel to the museum’s concept. It symbolizes the surreal nature of enjoying life as the world edges toward calamity. At the same time, I was having conversations with my husband about starting a family and the heavy considerations involved in bringing a child into such a tumultuous world—especially when societal trends show people capturing selfies as the earth faces collapse.

See You At The Maypole is set to release on October 4 through ANTI-.
