Cameron Lew, the talented multi-instrumentalist, producer, songwriter, and visual artist behind Ginger Root, is gearing up for the release of his upcoming album titled Shinbangumi. Following the announcement of the album last month with the lead single “No Problems,” he now presents another track, “Better Than Monday.”
“Better Than Monday” offers a blend of captivating hypnagogic pop, combining tinny synths with a groovy bassline to create a retro vibe. Lew elaborated on this retro aesthetic in a recent press release:
Intending to fuse lo-fi intimacy with hi-fi energy in a track, I wanted to explore the concept of mixing these elements. The lyrics playfully poke fun at the dislike for a particular day of the week, emphasizing that no matter how challenging a day may seem, it will inevitably be superior to a Monday.
The release of “Better Than Monday” is accompanied by an engaging music video co-directed by Lew and David Gutel. Continuing Ginger Root’s tradition of interconnected storytelling through music videos, this visual narrative follows Lew’s character as he endeavors to establish his own television station, encountering hurdles along the way. Be sure to watch the video and check out the upcoming tour dates below.
