“Get Ready to Groove: Exploring Clipping’s ‘Run It’ on TunesDeck”

clipping. – “Run It”

Clipping. deserves recognition: The avant-garde noise-rap trio, fronted by Daveed Diggs, has been pioneering the reinterpretation of J-Kwon’s “Tipsy.” This past three years, they crafted their own rendition of the iconic 2004 party anthem for our compilation album Save Stereogum. Earlier this year, they officially released this cover, leading to its incorporation into Shaboozey’s hit “A Bar Song (Tipsy).” Today, clipping. has returned with a brand-new single, intriguing a variety of country-pop talents who may draw inspiration in unexpected ways.

Currently, clipping. is building upon 2020’s Visions Of Bodies Being Burned, the middle entry in their horror-themed album series. They are set to launch a new project next year that melds rap with cyberpunk elements, and they’ve teased it with the release of “Run It,” which is not a cover of Chris Brown’s track.

In “Run It,” Daveed Diggs showcases his lyrical prowess over an exhilarating, frenetic beat crafted by bandmates Jonathan Snipes and William Hutson. The track features bursts of digital noise that occasionally transform into Detroit techno influences. This dynamic piece maintains the signature intensity of clipping.’s style while remaining accessible enough for a workout playlist. The fast-paced music video, directed by Lawrence Klein, follows the group as secret agents pursue them across cities including DC, Berlin, Prague, New Delhi, Bangkok, and Seoul, embodying high-stakes intrigue akin to Jason Bourne or Carmen Sandiego. Watch it below.

“Run It” is available now through Sub Pop.
