Galaxie 500 Presents Unheard Tracks in Upcoming Compilation
The band Galaxie 500, active from 1987 to 1991, will release a double album compilation called Uncollected Noise New York ’88-’90 in September. The compilation includes 24 archival recordings, some of which have never been heard before. They have shared two of these newly unearthed songs as a preview.
Curated by the band members themselves, the compilation covers the span of their career, from early recordings to later sessions. It will contain outtakes, B-sides, and standalone tracks.
Singer and guitarist Dean Wareham reflects on the joy of rediscovering these tracks: “I can see why we left some of these songs in the vaults, but there is pleasure in hearing them today. They sound very alive, like Galaxie 500 playing in the brick-walled room that was Noise New York.”
Drummer Damon Krukowski adds, “Opening up these tape boxes was like looking into an old journal… There are songs from all the Galaxie 500 recording sessions included here.”
Bassist Naomi Yang expresses the sentiment of evolution in the band’s sound, saying, “There is a sweetness in hearing the progression of us finding our own sound, our own collective voice. The Proustian power of music.”
Two songs released today from the compilation are “Shout You Down” from the Today sessions and “I Wanna Live” from the On Fire era. The full tracklist and these new songs can be streamed below.
