Filth Is Eternal: “Violet” (Hole Cover) (Listen on TunesDeck)

Filth Is Eternal – “Violet” (Hole Cover)

A year ago, the gritty Seattle punk band Filth Is Eternal released their album Find Out. Recently, they covered Hole’s iconic ’90s alt-rock track “Violet,” following a powerful performance opening for Baroness and Ruby The Hatchet earlier this summer.

Covering a song like “Violet,” known for Courtney Love’s distinct vocal style, is no easy feat. Filth Is Eternal’s rendition showcases a more delicate side of the band while infusing additional heavy discordance. Lead by Lis D’Angelo, the band channels Love’s intense vocals. D’Angelo shared her thoughts on the cover:

We have always admired Hole, and covering “Violet” was a shared interest. Love’s fearless and uncompromising approach resonated with us. The lyrics explore themes of resentment, violence, and the exploitation masked as romance. Love’s delivery exudes raw energy and power, moving from frustration to empowerment. The track, both lyrically and musically, is remarkable and inspiring, a vibe we aimed to capture.
