Fiction of a Damaged Heart – “Loss” (Music on TunesDeck)

fantasy of a broken heart – “Loss”

A few months back, fantasy of a broken heart was identified as a Band To Watch. The unconventional group from New York is gearing up for the release of their first album Feats Of Engineering, and have already unveiled the tracks “AFV” and “Ur Heart Stops.” Today, they present the catchy tune “Loss.”

Discussing the song, Bailey Wollowitz commented on the balance between simplicity and extravagance in songwriting:

In the age of home digital recording, there’s a constant pull between the simplicity and the abundance of possibilities in overdubbing and arranging. Why not include a string section in every track? During these contemplative moments, I often found myself drawn back to the initial releases of Unknown Mortal Orchestra. They have always served as a source of inspiration to me for achieving sonic richness with minimal arrangements—a perfect blend of the soaring heights of the later Beatles work and the raw sound of a Jay Reatard demo. “Loss” began with just a word on a page and a desire to encapsulate a profound emotion in a straightforward manner. Whether it’s memory loss, hearing loss, loss of a relationship, or the loss of a beloved individual, the song delves into getting lost within oneself. This track marked the inception of our album’s demo recordings and was pivotal in realizing the significance of being candid about these experiences. During the final mixing process, we peeled away the layers, leaving it in its true form: a small tune with profound meaning. Somewhere along the way, we also lost a few drum tracks.

The duo comprised of Wollowitz and Al Nardo also contribute as touring members of Water From Your Eyes, who recently put out a covers EP, and This Is Lorelei, whose latest album Box For Buddy, Box For Star was voted Album Of The Week. Listen to “Loss” below.

Feats Of Engineering is set for release on 9/27 via Dots Per Inch.
