Remembering Gulfer. Following their impactful fourth album Third Wind, the band from Montreal, leaning towards emo, shared the news of their disbandment earlier this year. However, they are concluding their journey with a splash by unexpectedly releasing a new EP titled Lights Out.
The Lights Out EP draws influence from modern shoegaze acts like Blue Smiley and Hotline TNT while still incorporating their signature intricate guitar work. In a statement released by the band, they express their feelings about the EP:
As a band, this is one of our proudest releases. Five years ago, it would have been hard for Gulfer to produce songs like these, but it illustrates our current creative evolution. The essence of our band has always been to have a means of expressing ourselves creatively and being able to reflect our inspirations through our craft. Hence, it is fitting to conclude this journey by sharing this collection of songs that we are truly proud to have created together. We hope you enjoy this final offering.
Before bidding farewell, Gulfer has two remaining gigs scheduled in Toronto and Ottawa. If possible, do attend these shows and give the Lights Out EP a listen below.
