Dan Deacon’s career path has been quite remarkable. He transitioned from an art-loving party enthusiast in Baltimore to a sensation in the music blogosphere and is now recognized as a prominent composer for film scores. His journey in film music began in 2011, when he was commissioned by Francis Ford Coppola to score the experimental film Twixt. Since that time, Deacon has contributed his talents to a variety of films, including documentaries and features.
Recently, Deacon made headlines when he appeared at the Oscars two years ago for scoring Ascension, which was nominated for Best Documentary but lost to Questlove’s Summer Of Soul. The following year, he composed the score for Hustle, a Netflix film starring Adam Sandler as an NBA scout. Now, he has taken on a major project by scoring the latest Venom film.
Venom: The Last Dance has hit theaters globally as the third and potentially final chapter of the series featuring Tom Hardy as both the investigative journalist Eddie Brock and the monstrous symbiote inhabiting his body. Despite the commercial success of the previous films, there seems to be a lack of buzz surrounding this latest installment, which currently sits at 36% on Rotten Tomatoes. Nonetheless, listeners can experience how Deacon’s distinctive style shapes a superhero film score.
The score aligns with typical superhero themes, characterized by dramatic strings and energetic percussion, while also incorporating quirky synth elements that make it unique. Unlike its predecessors, this film does not include a track with Eminem rapping about Venom. However, there are a few collaborative tracks between Deacon and renowned vocalist Skylar Grey.
