Charli XCX has been generating excitement around her upcoming Brat remix album, featuring the track “Talk Talk” alongside Troye Sivan. Billboards around the world hint at collaborations with artists such as Bon Iver, Tinashe, and the 1975.
Today, during an event at Storm King Art Center in upstate New York, Charli showcased the album and shared her inspiration for it: “Even after a song is released, there are numerous interpretations and versions that can exist.” Indeed! Now, Brat and it’s completely different but also still brat has arrived.
The collection, Brat and it’s completely different but also still brat, offers a diverse listening experience. Julian Casablanca transforms “Mean Girls” into a sound reminiscent of the Strokes from their New Abnormal era, while Caroline Polachek’s “Everything Is Romantic” features lyrics about “free bleeding in the autumn rain.” Bladee adds a unique touch to “Rewind,” and Bon Iver turns “I Think About It All The Time” introspective through a sample of Bonnie Raitt’s “Nick Of Time,” which they have previously covered.
The album also includes performances by Ariana Grande on “Sympathy Is A Knife,” Tinashe on “B2b,” the Japanese House on “Apple,” and a collaboration featuring the 1975 and Jon Hopkins on “I Might Say Something Stupid.” Additional contributions come from Bb trickz on “Club Classics,” A. G. Cook on “So I,” and Shygirl on “365.” You can listen here.
