Negative Gears, originating from Sydney’s Marrickville area, have dedicated the last five years to crafting their second album, “Moraliser,” in their studio space. This album is the successor to the band’s debut in 2019 and was recently released, showcasing their hard work brilliantly. Featuring energetic Australian punk tracks enhanced with hints of new-wave texture, “Moraliser” exudes a vibe reminiscent of the Cold War era, yet with lyrics delving into themes of self-centered materialism rather than nuclear fears:
Many songs on the record explore repulsive aspects of the city, such as selfish attitudes, material obsession, and a focus on wealth and status, all while disregarding anything beyond Sydney’s borders. This city lacks altruism, striving to emulate America, resulting in bringing out both the worst and the best in people. Despite the negatives, the underground communities thrive in solidarity due to the stark contrast between the extremes.
Following the trend set by numerous outstanding punk records from Australia, “Moraliser” was masterfully produced by Mikey Young of Total Control. Listen to it below:
The album “Moraliser” is now available via Static Shock/Urge.
