Elias Rønnenfelt, the frontman of Iceage, is set to release his first solo album titled Heavy Glory this Friday. Ahead of the official release, fans have already been introduced to several tracks, including “Soldier Song,” “Like Lovers Do,” “No One Else,” and “Worm Grew A Spine.” Today, he offers another glimpse into the album with the track “Doomsday Childsplay.”
Unlike the dark and cold punk sound he is known for from his time with Iceage, Rønnenfelt is exploring a more grounded singer-songwriter style in his new singles, with “Doomsday Childsplay” fitting right into this new direction. Featuring a haunting violin performance by Felix Havstad Ziska, this song showcases a more gothic and folk-infused vibe, reminiscent of Nick Cave. The lyrics reflect a thoughtful, poetic quality: “The reading of lips from mouths washed in soap/ Spelled out and hindered from weight,” he delivers over the atmospheric instrumentation.
