Open Head is a creative music group based in the Hudson Valley of New York, known for their blend of diverse influences including punk, no-wave, noise, hip-hop, and electronic genres. They have performed alongside notable bands like Water From Your Eyes, Dummy, Show Me The Body, Wand, and Cola. Recently, they have signed with Wharf Cat Records, and their first track on the label is titled “Catacomb.”
The creation of “Catacomb” marked a departure for lead vocalist and guitarist Jared Ashdown, along with bassist Jonathan McCarthy, as they opted to use synthesizers, processed sounds, and trigger pads over traditional instruments. The song’s lyrics draw influence from Sadegh Hedayat’s The Blind Owl, a novel delving into the impact of politics and systemic oppression on individual lives. The track conveys a sense of anxiety and has an industrial-rock vibe. You can listen to it below.
