Drug Church – “Demolition Man”

Drug Church Unveils New Single “Demolition Man”

Originating from Albany more than ten years ago, Drug Church has honed a distinctive style of catchy, aggressive, guitar-driven quasi-hardcore that sets them apart from their peers. Following the success of their highly acclaimed album, Hygiene, released two years ago, the band has been actively touring, performing at numerous festivals, and dropping singles such as “Myopic.” Their upcoming album, Prude, set to be released this fall, has fans eagerly anticipating its arrival.

Collaborating once again with Jon Markson, Drug Church’s new album, Prude, is expected to showcase the band’s signature sound. Frontman Patrick Kindlon delivers his raw lyrics while the rest of the band complements them with powerful riffs and melodies. The latest single, “Demolition Man,” joins the tracklist, following a similar vein to their previous work.

Unlike its title might suggest, “Demolition Man” by Drug Church is not a Police cover nor a direct ode to the action-packed movie featuring Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes. Instead, it stays true to the band’s style, exploring themes of purposelessness in life. Quoting lyrics, “Terriers live to kill rats / Retrievers carry birds through reeds / But there’s no reason for you to leave bed / No hardwired north, just a compass left spinning in your head,” the song delves into the lack of direction felt by many individuals. Kindlon describes it as a reflection on how animals, unlike humans, possess a clear sense of purpose in their everyday lives.

The accompanying music video for “Demolition Man,” directed by Alex Backes, features Biff Wiff from I Think You Should Leave as a convenience store clerk possibly experiencing a hallucination of Drug Church’s performance in his workplace. Notably, Kindlon’s comic book Frontiersman plays a role in the video. Fans can watch the video, browse the Prude tracklist, and find upcoming tour dates below.
