Disney has unveiled a unique pop-punk album for fans of all ages. Entitled A Whole New Sound, the album showcases pop-punk and alternative rock bands offering their own interpretations of popular Disney tunes. Simple Plan has kicked off the release with their rendition of Elton John’s “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” from The Lion King.
Speaking about the project, Simple Plan expressed their excitement, stating, “When Disney approached us for this collaboration, we were thrilled by the vast catalog of Disney songs. However, Elton John’s songs from The Lion King, especially ‘Can You Feel the Love Tonight,’ captivated us. The song’s classic essence and memorable melodies inspired us to create a pop-punk version.”
They added, “This song and movie have deeply impacted so many people across different generations. It resonates with our fans who grew up watching it, as well as with our own children. Honoring the film’s 30th anniversary this year was the cherry on top. It’s an honor to cover Sir Elton John’s work, and we hope he enjoys our rendition.”
Simple Plan will join Avril Lavigne on tour next month for her greatest-hits tour, and on August 9, they will perform their cover at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event.
