Originating from Chicago, the band Sleepwalk combines elements of shoegaze and post-hardcore to create their unique sound, described by them as “heavy music for the light-hearted.” With three albums already in their discography, they recently released their remarkable new EP, Out Of Focus.
Out Of Focus balances speed with haziness, and energy with melancholy. The opening lyrics of “Left Out,” sung by Ryan Davis, convey a sense of alienation: “Anywhere I am/ No matter the plan/ I always feel left out.” While the lyrics are profound, the band primarily lets the loud guitars convey the emotions, creating an evocative, gripping, and electrifying atmosphere, especially apparent in the emotionally numb track “I Wanna Feel.” Alongside Davis, the band comprises Paul Quinn on bass and Ethan Toenjes on drums and occasional vocals. Listen to the EP below and also stay tuned for their upcoming tour dates as they open for Mass Of The Fermenting Dregs.
