Discover Luther Vandross’ Hidden Gem: Unreleased Cover of The Beatles’ “Michelle”

Hear Luther Vandross’ Previously Unreleased Cover Of The Beatles’ “Michelle”

Next week, the documentary Luther: Never Too Much about Luther Vandross will debut, accompanied shortly after by a new album Never Too Much: Greatest Hits. This album includes a never-before-released rendition of the Beatles’ song “Michelle,” arriving today, 35 years after its initial recording.

The story behind this track is intriguing; Fonzi Thornton, a backup singer for Vandross, stumbled upon a cassette labeled “Luther Vandross Michelle 6/1/89.” Unfortunately, it provided no details on the recording location or additional musicians involved. An image of the cassette can be seen above.

The compilation features both the complete and single versions of “Michelle,” alongside another unreleased song named “Speak Your Love.” It also contains previously unheard remixes and edits. Below, you can listen to “Michelle,” view the trailer for the Never Too Much documentary, and check out the complete tracklist for the compilation.
