Ed Schrader’s Music Beat – “Daylight Commander”

Ed Schrader’s Music Beat, a Baltimore DIY duo, caught the attention as a Stereogum Band To Watch in 2012. Over the years, their musical journey has been marked by evolution and relentless creativity. They’ve now announced a new album, Orchestra Hits, following their 2022 release Nightclub Daydreaming. Leading the way is the single “Daylight Commander.”

In Orchestra Hits, Ed Schrader’s Music Beat expands their horizons by welcoming collaborator Dylan Going as co-writer and co-producer alongside Ed Schrader and Devlin Rice. “Daylight Commander” is an indie rock track with theatrical elements and a touch of synth-twinkles. Ed Schrader shares:

“Daylight Commander” delves into the dynamic of individuals with opposing political beliefs coexisting closely and the resulting tensions, often fueled by fear mongering perpetuated by media. There’s a humorous aspect too, like navigating awkward interactions with those who have differing views. The vocal approach in this track embraces a slightly theatrical style, inspired by Bowie’s advice to step out of one’s comfort zone for creative exploration.”

This summer, Ed Schrader’s Music Beat will tour with Baltimore peers Future Islands. From humble beginnings performing in a tea shop together 13 years ago, these bands now grace iconic venues like Radio City Music Hall.
