Delicate Steve, also known as Steve Marion, is set to release a new album titled Delicate Steve Sings next month. Inspired by Willie Nelson’s Stardust cover album, the record features covers of his musical influences alongside new compositions. The first single, “I’ll Be There,” drew inspiration from Bill Withers. Marion now presents a cover of Donnie and Joe Emerson’s “Baby.”
Incorporating his guitar prominently, Marion’s album still showcases his unique instrumental style. The guitar plays the role of “lead vocals” on “Baby,” with Marion’s actual singing voice subtly appearing at the song’s conclusion. He shares his thoughts on the song:
During the creation of Delicate Steve Sings, I immersed myself in one artist’s music at a time. I exclusively listened to that artist for about a month until I moved on to the next. I delved into Frank Sinatra, followed by Fats Domino, Chet Baker, and Portishead. Unexpectedly, Donnie & Joe’s “Baby” entered the mix one weekend, rekindling my appreciation for the song during my journeys to recording sessions. It was then that I chose to add my vocals to it.
